Push Notifications

Overview
CareForMeds can send push notifications to remind you when doses are due, alert you to missed doses, and notify you when refills are needed.
Types of Notifications
| Notification | Trigger | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Dose Reminder | Before scheduled dose time | Remind you to take medication |
| Missed Dose Alert | Dose time passed without logging | Alert that dose was missed |
| Refill Reminder | Inventory below threshold | Prompt refill request |
| Adherence Alert | Adherence drops significantly | Encourage better tracking |
| Caregiver Alert | Patient misses critical dose | Notify caregiver of concern |
Enabling Push Notifications
On Desktop (Browser)
- Go to Settings > Notifications
- Click Enable Push Notifications
- When your browser prompts, click Allow
- Notifications are now enabled
On Mobile (Phone/Tablet)
- Open CareForMeds in your mobile browser
- Go to Settings > Notifications
- Click Enable Push Notifications
- Tap Allow when prompted
- For best results, add CareForMeds to your home screen (see PWA Installation)
Notification Settings
Dose Reminders
Configure when you receive dose reminders:
- Go to Settings > Notifications
- Under Dose Reminders, choose:
- Timing: 15 min before, at dose time, or both
- Sound: Enable or mute notification sounds
- Per-medication: Customize for specific medications
Missed Dose Alerts
- Under Missed Dose Alerts, configure:
- Delay: How long after dose time to alert (e.g., 30 minutes)
- Repeat: Send follow-up alerts if still not logged
- Critical medications: Always alert for certain medications
Refill Reminders
- Under Refill Reminders, configure:
- First reminder: Days before running out
- Follow-up: Reminder frequency if no action taken
Quiet Hours
Prevent notifications during sleep:
- Go to Settings > Notifications > Quiet Hours
- Enable quiet hours
- Set start time (e.g., 10:00 PM)
- Set end time (e.g., 7:00 AM)
- Choose which notifications can override (critical only)
Per-Medication Settings
Customize notifications for specific medications:
- Go to the medication's detail page
- Click Notification Settings
- Override default settings for this medication:
- Enable/disable reminders
- Change reminder timing
- Mark as critical (always notifies)
Notification Actions
When you receive a notification, you can:
- Take - Log the dose as taken now
- Snooze - Remind again in 15 minutes
- Skip - Mark as intentionally skipped
- View - Open the medication detail
Troubleshooting
Not receiving notifications
Check browser permissions:
- Go to your browser settings
- Find CareForMeds in site permissions
- Ensure notifications are set to "Allow"
Check CareForMeds settings:
- Go to Settings > Notifications
- Verify notifications are enabled
- Check quiet hours aren't blocking
Check device settings:
- iOS: Settings > Notifications > Browser > Allow
- Android: Settings > Apps > Browser > Notifications > Allow
Notifications delayed
- Ensure background app refresh is enabled
- Check that battery saver isn't blocking notifications
- Try installing as PWA for more reliable notifications
Too many notifications
- Extend dose reminder timing
- Reduce repeat reminders
- Enable quiet hours
- Disable for as-needed medications
Caregiver Notifications
If you're a caregiver, you can receive notifications about your patients:
- Go to Settings > Caregiver Notifications
- Choose which events to receive:
- Missed doses
- Low adherence
- Refill needs
- Set notification priority per patient
Privacy
- Notifications show minimal detail by default
- Go to Settings > Privacy to show/hide medication names in notifications
- Lock screen visibility follows your device settings
